About Joel
A fourth-generation South Dakotan, Joel Bielstein spent much of his childhood exploring the Black Hills with his family on camping trips, hiking trails, and on the water. A naturalist at heart, Joel began drawing birds of prey in fine detail and learning the art of falconry at a young age.
Though he still draws, Joel is now more apt to pick up his camera than his pencil to capture the South Dakota wildlife and landscapes that have been inspiring him for more than three decades.
Joel's goal is to capture images that can be transformed into strikingly large pieces of art, a process that necessitates laying a dozen images on top of one another to create an unrivaled depth of color, texture, and movement.
